Loch Sport Poems

Australia, that Magic Land
Bush Poet, Cas van Loon.

Wind in the trees, gentle breeze, birds that sing,
Animals of the bush, slaking thirst at whispering spring,
Kookaburras laughing, butterflies, wild flowers at all,
Honey eaters, lorrikeets, whipbirds, waratah so tall

Eagles, kites, hawks on air currents far above ground,
Lyrebirds, bush turkeys, bower birds scratching around,
Lizards, frogs, shingleback, snake, occasional tree owl,
In the tranquility of the bush you can hear a dingo howl.

As night descends slowly, a whole new sensation,
The bush giving birth to a new animal population,
Sugar gliders, wombats, possums, koalas in trees,
The daylight animals and their predators flee.

Look up to star studded sky, Southern Cross way up yonder,
Moon reflecting in billabong, bush life full of wonder,
Tranquility all round, sounds of bush close at hand,
Where else would one want to be, Australia, magic land.
