ANZAC

By Ron Nicholas

This anzac day what does it mean
A stranger asked of me
Is it some form of worship
That the likes of i cant see

Is it a god from far away
Or perhaps a star from high
Or a mystic animal or bird
That passed through here to die

It must bear great significance
For it seems to stop the nation
As thousands march with heads held high
Like th’re honouring creation

Can i join in this wonderous sight
Can i join this throng so strong
May i join the march full of confidence
That seems forever long

I turned and faced this stranger fair
And smiled at him and said
The honour that you see today
Is to honour our glorious dead

Our folk who died on the battle field
Are the ones we hold so dear
For they gave their life that we may live
Far from tyranny and fear

Though we honour them each and every day
On this special day each year
Returned solders march to the sound of drums
reminisce maybe shed a tear

And recall the thoughts of long ago
The bad times and the good
When mates where made at the battle front
As gallantly they stood

So i’ve told you now a little bit
Of how anzac come to be
Please find out more as there’s loads to tell
About the shores of gallipoli

Lest we forget
