and weed have spoiled the surf fishing. In the later
morning if the water has calmed and the weed settled
a bit, fishers have caught a few small spotty salmon
and mullet but the water is still very shallow.
Received a report of a large shark head on the beach
last Thursday morning. Also on Monday about 10am, a
whale was seen well out at sea. |

Weather
conditions have not helped the surf fishing with strong
winds and now some weed. The channel is still shallow
making it difficult to cast the distance to deep water.
Very few fish have been caught, just a few spotty salmon,
gurnard and some gummies up to 115cm. Plenty of skate
and the draughtboard sharks are still around. |

has taken the weed away but has filled the channel with
sand making the surf shallow with no reachable deep
water.
The few fish reported having been caught are small -
spotty salmon, mullet, flathead, trevally and a small
gummy.
Take care! Snakes are about, several having been seen
in the beach area. |

- Very hot with Northerly gale, water calm but very,
very shallow right along the beach. One fisher only,
leaving without a bite.
Evening - Still very hot, wind died right off by dark.
Later, on the beach a Nth Easterly breeze sprang up.
Caught a 115cm gummy and 3 gurnard. At 2am a sudden
wind change from the Sth West and a big drop in temperature
changed everything. Other fishers were unsuccessful. |

Went
up to Loch Sport on Monday to deliver furniture to
the house. Checked out the surf beach, windy conditions
and shallow, the channel is starting to reform. It
didn't look good enough to even have a cast.
We decided to try the Straits out, had a report that
a couple of big bream had been caught near the boat
ramp.
From about 12:30 through to 3:30, using sand worm,
we accounted for twenty mullet and a keeper bream,
throwing the smaller ones back. They then went off
the bite, so we tried for some bream close to the
snags using live shrimp, within minutes I had a good
bite but lost it. Moments later I struck a big one
and fought it to the surface, it was about 40 cm,
I called Marko for the net, but the fish flipped and
dislodged the hook. We caught a couple more small
ones and I was broken off on something big before
we ran out of bait. Unfortunately the net had broke
and we couldn't catch anymore shrimp. If you go look
out for the mozzies, Marko lost about a litre of blood
to the hordes.
