Sharkman's Fishing Diary
Our Fishing Reports are factual from people who actually fish the area. Unlike some fishing sites who just copy stuff that is weeks old and claim it as their own.
If the fishing has been bad we say so and do not pretend otherwise just to get you here. Reports are updated weekly, usually Thursdays.

Poor conditions existed at the surf all week with fine weed being brought back by the strong Easterly winds and big seas which also silted up the channel. A Sth Westerly wind change took the weed away for less than a day.

7pm - Had a few casts, no weed, but the wind was quickly picking up in strength from the South back towards the East and the water was getting to rough to fish.

Surf fishers are clearly experiencing the unusually difficult conditions at this time of the year. Weed being brought in by the Easterly winds just after being moved away by the Southerlies, a real Merry-Go-Round. The Easterlies have also brought in a lot of loose sand, bogging sinkers and making lots of shallow water and sandbars.
Mullet are just about the only fish that have been caught as they are able to be caught close to the edge in the small holes.
Thu 23 - 3 - 06
1st car park
Sharkman.

10am - No change to fishing conditions. Light Southerly breeze. A few fishers coming and quickly leaving.
Wed 22 - 3 - 06
1st car park

10.30am - No wind after another night with strong Easterly wind and sea roaring which brought back the weed. The water is all brown coloured from the edge to well out passed the bar. A couple of fishers fishing for mullet in the pools at low tide, but unsuccessful because of the weed on their lines. Black mushy cotton type weed.
Tue 21 - 3 - 06

Sun 19 - 3 - 06

11am - No wind, calm water, no weed. Several fishers all catching mullet. One fisher was sporting a 3kg salmon.
Evening - Fished 2 hrs. Strong Easterly wind, water getting very rough, not a bite so packed up. Most of the fishers had already left. A lot of sand was moving around and the sinker was getting bogged all the time.

Thu 16 - 3 - 06

90 Mile Beach
Weed has again been washed in because of the Easterly winds. Mullet seem to be plentiful and some bigger ones are appearing. A few small flathead and some gummies to about one metre were caught before the weed came back.
Very calm water has seen the weed just sitting there, taking it's time to go again. Plenty of sand was also washed in making the channel shallow in many places.
Thu 16 - 3 - 06
1st car park
Sharkman.

10.30am - Calm water, no wind but black clouds threatening. Two fishers, one with mullet, the other small flathead. Still some weed, channel now changed to lots of shallow water with some small holes.
3pm - Appeared to be less weed.
8.30pm - Strong Westerly wind and showers, had been some thunder. Water a little rougher, weed bad, impossible to wind the line back in.
Wed 15 - 3 - 06
1st car park
Sharkman.

1pm -  Low tide, calm and no wind. Big patches of weed to be seen and lots of smaller bits floating around. Two fishers, one picking off weed but catching mullet which included some big ones. Dark patches indicting bait fish out past the bar with seagulls sitting on the water above them.
Tue 14 - 3 - 06

Thu 9 - 3 - 06

90 Mile Beach

Wind and weed have badly affected surf fishing this week, but the sidewash has dug the channel out right along the beach. Quite a few mullet have been caught, with only a few flathead and the occasional salmon and small gummies. The weed has been gone for just one day at this stage and with such changeable weather there are no guarantees on it not coming back again.
Thu 9 - 3 - 06
1st car park
Sharkman.

Early Morn - Much like last night but only caught a catshark and a mullet. Another fisher caught a gummy as I left the beach.

Wed 8 - 3 - 06
1st car park
Sharkman.

Tue 7 - 3 - 06

8pm - Strong Southerly wind, big sea and whitewash, lots of white water.
Mon 6 - 3 - 06

Evening - Fished 2 hrs till too much weed, caught a flathead. All the other fishers left also because of the strong South-Easterly wind and rough water.

Wind and weed have caused surf fishing results to be very poor this week. There have been a few mullet, tailor, salmon and flathead. Only a couple of gummies and some small hammerheads with the exception of an 18kg, 1.44 metre bronze whaler.
The channel is improving from the shallow water earlier this week.
Thu 2 - 3 - 06
1st car park
Sharkman.

8pm - A strong Easterly wind and sea mist, lots of white water and some rollers coming in. A lot of sand being stirred up, possibly some weed.

Evening - Now a fairly strong Easterly wind. As the tide came in so did more weed. Only fished 11/2 hrs.
