Weather
and beach conditions have been better for beach goers
than fishers, with sunny days and calm water.Only a
few large salmon, some spotty salmon and a few mullet
have been caught.
Catch of the week was a 1.8 metre seven gilled shark
by a very lucky fisher. The channel is good, having
been dug out again after overnight sidewash filled some
of it up with sand last week |

7am
- Westerly breeze, water calm, many fishers on the beach,

caught two draughtboard sharks, did not see a single
fish caught. All fishers had gone and I was left on
my own. |

10am
- Very calm water, slight Westerly breeze, several fishers
with a few large salmon caught. One lucky fisher had
just landed a 1.8 metre seven gilled shark and was filleting
it. What excitement there had been on the beach! Because
of the shallow water he had trouble bringing it in then
the line broke, a wave came in but it didn't swim away
so a fellow with a gaff gaffed it, they had quite a
fight with it before finally landing it.
3pm - Fished 2 hours, not a bite, water getting rougher
as darkness fell. Some small spotty salmon caught by
others. |

4
pm - No wind, overcast after early drizzle. Several
fishers, one with a medium salmon, skate and draughtboard
sharks being caught. What a change to the beach since
yesterday. Overnight sidewash had cut up to a metre
step in the sand and dumped it into the edge of the
channel making it hard for the fishers to cast into
deep water. One fisher reported having caught 10 good
salmon whilst fishing during the rain of the early morning. |

Weather
and surf conditions have been perfect but nobody has
told the fish. Just some ordinary salmon and small spotties
for those who are lucky. Received a report that a very
surprised fisher caught a small sea snake! Wonder if
the toilet paper was handy? |

The
surf has gone from rough conditions to several very
calm days and catches have considerably reduced. Just
a few 1kg sized salmon and a lot of spotties. Some draughtboard
sharks and the odd skate are still around.
The channel has been dug out since the last gales and
the water looks perfect but the extremely cold weather
is having it's effect on catches. |

Mostly
rough surf conditions lately but now has calmed down.
Channel now distinctly in crescents along the beach,
with patches of very shallow water in between. A small
amount of weed was washed in with the rough seas but
not really a problem.
Salmon of all sizes being caught, but results are patchy,
persistence pays off. Try a variety of baits like blue
bait, white plastic grubs and poppers. |
