Sharkman's Fishing Diary
Our Fishing Reports are factual from people who actually fish the area. Unlike some fishing sites who just copy stuff that is weeks old and claim it as their own.
If the fishing has been bad we say so and do not pretend otherwise just to get you here. Reports are updated weekly, usually Thursdays.

10.30am - Southerly breeze, water rough enough to create some sidewash. One or two fishers trying to fish.
Evening - Slight South Easterly breeze, water reasonably calm but waves breaking hard on the close in bar making it very hard to keep a line out there. Only had one bite and landed a 1.47 metre gummy, weighed 13.2kg. No other fishers.
Tue 30 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

1pm - Calm day, water very calm and clear. Fishers wading to the bar couldn't get a bite, they ended up catching crabs in the pools along the edge.
Mon 29 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

11.30am - Slight breeze from the South West, water reasonably calm but again a small channel and bar has formed close in preventing most fishers from casting into deep water. A few fishers fishing in the shallows.
6.30pm - Easterly wind, waves breaking heavily on the close in bar. Tried but couldn't cast far enough over the bar. One fisher who could just manage it, later caught a small gummy.

Weed, weed and more weed this week. Disappointing, as the weather conditions have not been bad, the tide has sometimes cleared the weed long enough to have a fish, but not for long! Several species of fish have been reported but only one or two of each type. They include, pinkie snapper, flathead, salmon, red cod, and gummies. One very lucky fisher landed a 1.25 metre gummy.

Not a good week in the surf with red weed in the water every day. Even the swimmers didn't like the weed. A fisher arrived at the beach Monday after traveling all the way from Flamingo beach and couldn't find a beach without thick weed.

Wind, sidewash, weed and shallow water has hampered fishing this week. Fishers cannot reach deep water with their casts. Some fishers have been fishing for mullet in the shallow water close to the beach, a few have been caught including a salmon or two.
Thu 11 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

7pm - South Easterly breeze, water calmed down, more ash washing up on the sand from today's dark sky. No other changes - no fishers.
Wed 10 -1 - 07

9.30am - An Easterly breeze picking up, sea very rough with a big swell. Several fishers fishing in the edge for mullet, one salmon had also been caught.
Tue 9 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

Midday - Easterly wind, rough water, still too shallow. The beach was carpeted with dozens of dead salmon blown up and rotting. Obviously the catch from the grounded trawler on Saturday night was now washing up all along the beach. Salmon were 1 1/2 - 2kg size.
Mon 8 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

9.30am - Strong Sth Easterly wind, rough water and a couple of desperate fishers trying unsuccessfully.
Sun 7 -1 - 07

10am - Trawler gone. Southerly wind, water choppy, a couple of fishers picking off fine weed.
Sat 6 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

11.30am - Very calm and only a couple of fishers who had seen a couple of large salmon caught by others, also a flathead. All having trouble casting. A trawler just off shore.
8pm - Arrived to fish only to be told fine weed was all along the fishers lines even though there was no wind and calm water. Also that the trawler was now aground on the sandbar near the edge. Walked up the beach to the ship, could walk out to it through the shallow channel it was so close in. Stuck fast at low tide and a net full of fish hanging over the side. Quite a few sniggers from the fishers who felt it was just deserts.
Fri 5 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

10.30am - No wind and water dead calm. Quite a few fishers all pulling in kelp.
7.30pm - Calm conditions, tried a fe casts, could barely reach deep water and just kept picking up kelp, like so many other fishers.
Thu 4 -1 - 07
Wanda
90 Mile Beach
A week of Easterly gales has made the surf unfishable. Even if the wind has died down, deep water cannot be reached. Dozens of fishers trying in impossible conditions.
Thu 4 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

10pm - The Easterly wind has calmed down to almost nothing but because so much sand has washed off the beach it is impossible to cast past all the shallow white water and sidewash. Dozens of fishers are on the beach trying and eventually giving up because they are wasting their time and it is better to paddle in the water or go for a dip considering the hot day.
5pm - A light Easterly breeze, still a lot of shallow white water. A few fishers who found deep water was too far to cast.
Wed 3 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

8.30pm - Still an Easterly wind, rough water and sidewash. Unbelievable that a few fishers are attempting to fish despite all this sand flying around.
Tue 2 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.

5pm - No change.
Mon 1 -1 - 07
1st car park
Sharkman.
Early Morn - Still an Easterly wind, tried a big cast but line quickly washed back in, cannot reach deep water.
7pm - Still blowing - no change.
